Dentist in Buda
Get to Know Carly Schaefer, DDS
A third-generation dentist, Dr. Schaefer was drawn to dentistry before she can remember. While the clinical and technical aspects were interesting, it was the patient connections that made her decide to go into the profession. She says that nothing feels better than meeting someone, hearing about their dental issues, and being able to provide exactly what they need in a comfortable, personalized way.
Why Did You Decide to Become a Dentist?
Dr. Schaefer practically grew up in the dental office since her grandpa and dad were both dentists, and her mom and grandma were hygienists as well! She saw firsthand how amazing it was to work with people and transform their lives via their smiles. She liked how being a dentist lets you get to know your patients beyond the surface level, and the hands-on aspect is engaging and fascinating.
Where Did You Study Dentistry?
Dr. Schaefer attended the University of Michigan for her undergrad, which was followed by a pre-dental post-baccalaureate program at the Temple University School of Dentistry. She went on to earn her dental degree from the Marquette University School of Dentistry.
Despite being out of school, Dr. Schaefer has never stopped learning and training. She has completed the Hiossen Implant Master Course, done continuing education focused on 3D printing/digital dentistry, is a member of the Surgical Masters CE program, and is currently involved in the Clinical Mastery CE course program. She regularly travels back to Michigan and does advanced training with her dad who hosts various kinds of CE courses.
On top of this, she is certified in laser dentistry and conscious sedation. Dr. Schaefer is also an active member of the American Dental Association, Texas Dental Association, Michigan Dental Association (she grew up in Michigan), Academy of General Dentistry, and American Academy of Implant Dentistry.
Outside of the Dental Office, What Do You Like to Do?
Dr. Schaefer and her boyfriend, Chris, have two fur babies: an Irish Wolfhound-poodle mix named Marley and a Maine coon cat named Kygo. A former collegiate athlete for diving at the University of Michigan, she stays active by golfing, hiking, and wake surfing on Lake Austin. An avid foodie, she loves cooking and frequently tries new restaurants, so be sure to tell her about any hidden gems you’ve visited lately!
